It is one of the three lighthouses located in the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta. The three of them have the same design and format, a square shaped base and white and black strips.  When they were first built they had a light on top next to an optical system and a spinning mechanism to serve as a guide light for the ships at night. At present, both lighthouses on the top of the mountain have been remodeled to have them used as view sites from where you can enjoy marvelous views of the city. para darle identidad al pueblo Vallartence y recordarnos que fuimos un puerto de intercambio comercial, es un icono marítimo de Vallarta.
In particular, this lighthouse has been out of use since 1976, at present it is a symbol and a very popular place to take pictures. If you are walking the city, you will find it at the Malecon, if you Access Vallarta by car, it is the first historic building you will find at the Malecon.

The Lighthouse is one of the oldest tourist attractions of our city, built in 1932, it has a twin located some one hundred meters to the East (although it is not quite visible, it is easy to get there. .It is located on Matamoros Street, behind the Guadalupe Church between Mina and Galeana Streets).

Both lighthouses were used to guide the ships upon their arrival to this tourist destination, from the year it was built in 1970, year in which the Maritime Terminal and Estero El Salado started to work
